I remember, what confused me first when learning a 6 count rhythm (I think it was ECS) was the simple fact, that I just couldn’t understand, why someone would create a dance based on 6 count pattern to 4undefined4 bar music (cause that’s 8 counts, right?)… WCS at least had 8 count basics too bit still it wasn’t quite intuitive to me, why you would make it so complicated, leaving the leaders with doing a lot of maths while dancing, to at least hit the phrase (will be covered in the music section).. I think it never got explained properly to me – it just was like this… in the history unit of the ddp (the Royston lecture about the history of WCS), I had that big “AHAAA!” moment.. so I am not going to spoiler here but look forward to it!
Being a musician, the use of the words "triple step" confused me as the rhythm that the dance teachers were showing was not a "triplet". I wondered why they didn't teach the universal musical rhythmic counting — 1, 2, 1 & 2…..
