I have been taught to connect entire forearm from wrist to elbow during Sugar Tuck. This would require contrabody motion to absorb the momentum and keep the connection springy.. However, this locks up the elbows so deprives both leader and follower of this aspect of "suspension". So I suppose this would not be ideal but could be a styling choice.
I can’t think of an advantage to restricting the movement of two joints of the arm by attaching them to a partner during a compression. This seems unergonomic and counterproductive, so I would not recommend it even for styling.
My huge ‘Ah ha’ moment came during the explanation of the lateral pressure connection. This made such an impact that I had to comment on it. In all my years of dancing, private lessons, events, classes… I have never heard this mentioned. It explains so much. I love the diagonality connection. I am hoping that next I dance with a leader who is also aware of these skills that it will all start to fall into place. I always felt like something was missing when I lost connection with my leader or the connection is weak. I am feeling positive that with my new found deeper understanding of connections that I will be a more pliable and responsive follower. Can’t wait. Its so true what Tessa said about shrinking when caught in a complex pattern. I cannot wait for the next time this happens. I know now to push out not shrink. Also the space helmet. Oh wow…. this is my favourite module. My understanding of wcs has gone up several notches. *grin*
